A Morning Symphony

I wake, thinking about the first time I heard my fiancé sing: He was completely off key and did not know all the words, but he was carefree and unafraid of how I would judge him. He sang with confidence and his bright, gleaming eyes that told me, "I am singing because I am happy; I am happy because I am with you." I laughed and sang along with him for the entire car ride and I knew that I was falling in love... Because I used to hate how people sang off key until I heard him sing. Now his voice is the song that wakes me every morning and the lullaby that lets me drift to sleep. He is still off key and sometimes forgets the words, but it is my favorite voice in the world.

A happy two years and four months.

He is the composer of the life I sing. I read lyrics in his eyes. There is theory in his smile. A symphony is whispered by the sound his voice composes: A willful song he sings off key. The offbeat tempo I’ve grown to know; The rhythmic, beating melody of two hearts harmonizing. The staff marks life. Floating notes track the memories of child-like love and growing pains, and why I can never stray too far, and all the reasons why I choose to stay.
